Treating Office Back Pain

Treating Office Back Pain With Therapy Directory

Sitting in an office chair at work is something that the majority of us have to do at work. Assuming you work an 8 hour day at work, that's around half of your waking day sitting at your desk in front of a computer.

In fact, as you read this you're probably straining to see the screen by leaning forward, rolling your shoulders and moving your chin forwards. As you do this you can feel your back and shoulders tightening into a dull ache, which over time could cause you serious back problems. About 7.6 million working days were lost due to work-related back pain and other musculoskeletal disorders from 2010 to 2011, which shows the multitude of the problem.

One of the reasons back pain can arise at work is because the body can only remain in the same position for a certain amount of time before it feels the need to adjust. If however, you are able to sit with the correct posture and take regular breaks, you can reduce the oncoming effects of back pain. The correct posture while sitting is to sit up straight with your lower back supported and your head upright.

There are a few ways to combat back pain including adjusting your computer screen to the correct height (you should be looking directly at the screen with your neck straight, taking regular exercise breaks, adjusting the height of your chair, and of course purchasing an ergonomic chair from New Image Office Design.

If you are still experiencing serious pain after trying these steps, you may benefit from visiting a  chiropractor to find out how they can help you. You can find a chiropractor near you at the Therapy Directory.
